Cropping and framing a picture will enhance the impact of the picture and make the picture look more professional.
Step 1
Open the image that you want to frame in Photoshop.
the unedited image
Step 2
Photoshop marquee tool
Go to the tool menu and click on the Marquee tool (or press M) and make sure it set to rectangular shape. If it's not click on this same button with the right mouse button and select it.
Step 3
Next, select the area that you want to keep.

Step 4
Photoshop crop menu
Once you're pleased with the selection you have just made go to the menu Image > Crop.
Step 5
Here's the cropped image ready for a frame!

Cropping images is very useful when you don't want areas of the picture that distracts the eye from the main object.

Step 6
Next, to the framing!
Go to menu Image > Canvas Size.
This features allows you to actually create or remove pixels vertically and/or horizontally. Check the example...
Step 7
A dialog like one below shows up.
First, you have the current size of the image (250x376px in this case).
Then you have the new site which you will change.

For this tutorial, we'll increase width and height by 2 pixels each (one on each side; one on top and one on the bottom), anchored to the center and (very important) it is a Relative increase.

-> If you choose Relative you'll just enter the number of pixel, inches, etc. you'll add or remove. You don't choose Relative you'll enter the total pixels you want to have in the new size. For example: if we didn't choose Relative we'd have to put 252 (250 + 2) pixels in the width value to get the same result.

Finally, we pick white in the Canvas extension color.
Click OK.
Step 8
This is what you get. A simple 1 pixel white outline automatically created.
Let's go on!

Step 9
We will repeat steps 6 and 7 using other settings.
Go to menu Image > Canvas Size again.
For this tutorial, this are the values I used:
Relative, 60 pixel width and height, center anchor and Black.

Click OK.
This is the final image, cropped and framed!
