In this Photoshop tutorial you will learn how to add a beard to a face. We will be using a few simple techniques that are easy to follow and easy to understand. The result will look very good and is great if you want to play a trick on your friends.
Step 1
Start out by opening a picture of your victim of choice :) I have selected a picture of Micha Barton from OC.
Step 2
In this step we are going to paint the area that we want beard on, you don’t have to be precise in this step since we are going to shape the beard with a layer mask later on.

Start out by creating a new layer above the picture. I used a soft brush with a size of 25 to paint my area. Important is to set the color you paint with to some middle gray, I used #878787.
Bellow is how it should look when you are finished with this step.

Step 3
Photoshop add noise settings
Now we are going to add some noise to the newly painted are. Go to Filter > Noise > Add Noise, to the left you can see the settings that I used for my Micha beard, increasing the amount will make the beard darker.
Step 4
In the next step we will use Photoshop radial zoom blur, in order to center the effect on the face we need to create a circular selection in the center of the face.

Do this by holding down alt + shift and click in the middle of the face with the Elliptic Marquee Tool.

Step 5
Photoshop radial blur settings
Now when you have the selection in the center of the face go to Filter > Blur > Radial Blur. To the left are the settings that I used, by increasing the amount you will increase the length of the beard, if you increase it enough it will start looking like fur.
Step 6
Photoshop blending modes
Now change the Blending mode of the beard layer to multiply.
Bellow you can see what you could expect at this stage.

Step 7
Add layer mask
To shape the beard I have used a Layer mask, to the left I have made a circle around the button you should press to add a layer mask.

Now select the Brush Tool and start painting with black in the Layer mask, as you can see where you paint with black the beard disappears use this and your fantasy to change the way the beard looks.

Here is my finished picture, do you think she looks a bit male?
